My creative space: pouches and more pouches

I've been making mountains of pouches this week, for my stall at Kraftbomb this Sunday.

They're denim and canvas and they all have screen printed patches.  I've been having lots of fun with that green ink.

I've also been thinking about making myself this garment here:
It's the two-way stole from this book:
Have any of you made it before?  Looks like it'll be fun as long as tracing the pattern from the pattern sheet doesn't give me square eyes.

My creative space: monkeying around

I made this cheeky monkey for my friend's baby - he's the "monkey man" pattern from Fiona Dalton's book Hop Skip Jump: 20 Eco-Friendly Toys to Sew.  His overalls used to be a pillowcase I bought in Putaruru, his face and ear linings are from an old blanket and his body is made from some wool crepe that is a leftover from a dress I made.

And he has a cheeky patch on the back of his overalls.  He was lots of fun to make - I might have to make another one to monkey around at my place!

To market

I'm going to be doing some markets over the next few months, and a bit of gallivanting around the North Island.  First up I'll be at the Kraftbomb Halloween extravaganza that is happening on the 28th of October.  It's 11-2 at the Grey Lynn Community Centre and details are here.
Next I'm going to be at the Auckland Art and Craft Fair - that's December the 8th in the Aotea Centre in Auckland, 11-4.  Details are on the Auckland Art and Craft Fair blog over here.
And the next market is where the travelling comes in - I'm going to be at Craft Country in Greytown on the 15th of December - 10-3 in the Greytown Town Hall.  Details are here, exciting!

Time to get sewing, and drawing, and printing!

Feathering my nest

My workmate was given two mysterious bags full of feathers the other day, and I borrowed a few of them to draw over the weekend.  Here they are in pencil and in pen...I'm going to hopefully turn them into a gocco print in the next couple of days.

I think they once belonged to a hawk, a pheasant, a kereru and a mallard.

Lime and passionfruit

I've been trying to do some screen printing troubleshooting lately and I've been finding that putting a towel under the screen as one book suggested is helping the lines to come out a bit clearer.  I thought I'd treat myself to some cheery lime green ink and I've been printing up a storm - I think I'll turn these prints into brooches.  The lime's a pretty good match for the leaves of this passionfruit flower that's sitting on my desk, waiting to be drawn too!

Pink birdy

Playing round in Photoshop - this is actually going to have a blue background and red lettering, but I'm having a play with some other combinations...

Embroidery

I've been having a bit of op shop embroidery luck lately.  I got this broderie anglaise embroidered top that looks kind of like sea anemones and I'm going to cut it up to make into pouches.

From the St. Vinnies in Onehunga I also got this giant embroidered '70s wrap skirt.  I love the bright red that matches the ranunculus in my garden.  The skirt's destined to become pouches too.
And one not to cut up is this embroidered cardy.  It's such toasty warm cashmere that just putting it on puts me in a good mood.

It could be the start of a very expensive cashmere habit.  Oh dear.
How about you, had any good op shop luck lately?

My creative space: birds of a feather

I finally finshed the drawing I've been working on at lunchtimes:
And today, on my day off, I coloured it in Photoshop:
I'm going to get it printed A4 sized like these ones.
Then I went up the road and had a coffee and started the next one in the series:
How about you, what have you been working on?
 Happy Thursday to you!

Lunchtime drawing

I've been working on a new one of my "birds saying bird sayings" drawings on my lunch breaks for the last week or so; here it is in action today.  And some of the other things I spied on my lunch break, before I had to run inside out of the rain...
